Yesterday, with the big storm moving through and a storm-chasing friend down from Michigan, we decided to take a drive west to see what we could find. Ironically, the only tornado that ended up touching down was slightly east of my apartment, as we drove 3 hours west, but I digress. Aaaanyway...here are some pictures from the chase yesterday - there were still some awesome storms, and overall it was a surprisingly good day for a February storm.

Here's a few pictures from the afternoon:

Well, we had the apartment post, now here's the work post.

This is (from left) Katie, myself and Devon. Katie is the chief meteorologist, and Devon does weekend evenings. (PS - yes, that is my forecast in the background.)

This is a wider view than before of the right side of the weather center. That's Katie on the computer.

This is a wider view of the left side of the weather center.

And just for posterity, this is Doug. He's the lead promotions producer, and all around a pretty nice guy. He came down to visit me (really, to tell me that Katie was in one of the teases), and since I had my camera, I decided to take a picture of him, too.

I'm sure from time to time I will post more pictures of work-related stuff, but for now, this is it. Any questions? Let me know.

The much awaited apartment post. Here we go...

This is my living room, from the kitchen.

This is my kitchen/dining area. No room for a table, so I have two counter stools that are working out beautifully.

Sorry for the sideways view...this is the kitchen/island from the bedroom door.

Here is the bedroom, from the bathroom.

Here is the desk/bathroom, from the other side of the bedroom.

Again, sorry for the sideways shot. This is the bathroom (obviously).

Here is my expansive closet, that also holds my fabulous washer and dryer.

Just for perspective, because coming up is...

My fabulous washer (yes, there are clothes in it)...

And my awesome dryer! Woo full size appliances!

Anyhow, that's the big and small of it. I like it. It's homey. Come visit. :)
Last summer, I was sort of up for a weekend meteorologist opening in Lubbock, Texas. I exchanged emails a few times with the chief meteorologist there, who was extremely nice and very genuine and encouraging. The job ended up going to a meteorologist who was coming from a station where he was the chief, and was looking to get back to Lubbock because that's where he was from (or something like that), and my zero experience didn't exactly match up. However, the chief in Lubbock was very nice the whole time, so I yesterday I emailed him to thank him and let him know I had gotten a job. Within a couple hours, I had this email back from him:

Hello Amanda,

Thanks for your email. I knew that you had talent and I’m glad that your search has resulted in work at a very good market. Once you’re settled in, please send me some examples of the weathercasts, including your work. I’m always open to new ideas in presentation. During the severe weather season maybe the station will send you to our area chasing storms and you can stop and visit. Just a little trivia, KCTV was the call letters of the station that I used to work for in San Angelo, TX. The station sold the letters to your current station and the call letters in San Angelo became KLST.

Best Wishes,

[redacted by me]

PS We are a little warmer here…

It was once again encouraging, and makes me realize that the weather people are the nicest people in the business. :)

Here is my "office", the weather center at KCTV. This is where I spend my days (and some nights). My lens is too long to be able to see the whole thing, and Katie was out sick, so I'll be bringing my camera back in to get better pictures.

That's Devon - he is the weekend evening meteorologist, but he was in working for Katie since she is sick. After I took this picture...my battery died. I will charge the battery back up and bring the camera in another day to get better pictures.

The big winter storm moved through here yesterday, which I was happy about since the snowfall totals were in line with my forecast. Woo accuracy! Here are a few pictures from outside my apartment:

I'll try to keep this updated with pictures and tidbits. We'll see how vigilant I am about it, but for now, that's the plan.
